Praxis: Phase 1 Reflection

Notes on Praxis:

  1. When I think of how I’ve changed in the past two months, I would say I have noticed that I am more well spoken in interactions as well as my writing has taken an upturn.
  2. From the content and projects these past few months, I would say that the week 4 projects of analyzing habits was the best. Praxis gave me many resources to use to track things that I need to get done as well as progress.
  3. From the work I’ve done over the two months, I have learned that I work best in planned increments of time. What I mean by this is assigning one or two assignments from that week to a certain day, and then completing them as the week goes by.
  4. If I could honestly rate myself from 1-10 of how much I’ve lived up to my potential these past two months, I would give myself a 6. I can feel the potential I have and it is shown both in Praxis and within my job. However, I think I have quite a few personal challenges to overcome before I think I can truly reach my potential.
  5. When I think of what stood out to me from the first two books that we read during Praxis, I love the ice cube example from Atomic Habits. It says how even though the ice cube is heating up, it won’t melt until 32 degrees. This is to say that even though you are changing, it won’t be noticeable for a certain amount of time, which is an encouragement to stay motivated.
  6. I think what I need to do in order to reach my goals and get the absolute most out of Praxis, I need to change my discipline and focus. Even though I am working, I want to be able to give Praxis 101% of my attention so that I can be confident enough to pursue a career after Praxis.
  7. I think one of the best key takeaways I’ve gotten from Praxis is that if you do not become the best version of yourself that you can be, the harder and harder it will be to reach your goals. Become a virtuous and hardworking individual, and you will see the most results.

As Phase 1 of Praxis comes to an end, there is much to reflect on and even more to look forward to. During phase 1, I was able to complete a multitude of projects, from blog posts to writing my own newsletter, to writing on topics I genuinely am interested in, and a multitude of multi day projects, all of which grew my skill set. Also in phase 1 we read two books: Mastery and Atomic Habits. Mastery was a book on how to master any skill through mentorship and personal development, which I thought fit perfectly with the program and my own personal growth. Atomic Habits was how to build good habits and maintain them, as well as break bad habits and make them undoable. Both were amazing reads that both woke me up and gave me a step by step guide on how to make improvements. Phase provided a multitude of knowledge through projects, videos, and workshops, but there are some specific key takeaways. The first being organization; it is hard to get anything done without proper balance in one’s life, anything from making your bed to creating a google calendar to check your events. The next being dedication and focus; the two combined make for a more in depth experience, which taught me to get the most out of the program and out of other aspects in my life. Out of all the projects I did in phase one, I would say that my Thought Piece and habit development plan were my favorite projects, as I found them to be the most resourceful. I will link those pieces below. Finally, in complete honesty, I am a little intimidated by the looks of phase 2. With that being said, I am still facing it with a learning mindset and am excited to get started. The four modules that look most attractive to me at the moment are sales, marketing and growth, life skills, and job hunting. I think these will fit most with what I have planned in my life and I think they will have the most benefit to my career.
